Giovanni Albanese arrived in America from Italy in 1974 with little more than a work ethic. In 1991, he partnered with childhood friend Andrea Ciano, also an Italian immigrant, to found Albanese D&S, building it into a well-respected underground utility contractor known for taking on the toughest jobs in New England.

On the Cambridge Street Sewer Relief project in Worcester, crews diverted flow from a 60-by-84-inch brick interceptor into a new 54-inch main, building a flow-through bypass so novel that project engineers presented it at a national NEWEA conference.
